Atenas Bus Station Market

The market at the Atenas Bus Station is right in the middle of town and has so much character to it, it should not be missed. The market not only has vendors that sell produce, cheeses, meats and poultry as well as fish , but it also has little breakfast and lunch snack bars to grab a quick local meal and cafe before hitting the road for a day of adventure. Stop here for delicate fish – ask for the freshest, because believe it or not they still sometimes sell frozen fish, like tilapia from Costa Rica,  as crazy as that sounds.  Keep in mind that the beef in Costa Rica is different than it is in North America and many people do not like it. The cows are often the brahma variety and  climbing those steeps hills definitely does not keep the meat tender.
